The Houston Texans are making headway with their 2022 NFL draft class.

According to Aaron Wilson from the Pro Football Network, the Texans have signed former LSU cornerback Derek Stingley to a four-year rookie deal worth $34.6 million.

The Texans picked Stingley No. 3 overall in the draft to shore up their secondary and give coach Lovie Smith a versatile defensive back to play in his Tampa 2 scheme.

Stingley also gets a $22.385 million signing bonus.

General manager Nick Caserio told reporters on April 28 after the conclusion of the first-round round why the club decided to take Stingley.

“Derek has played at a high level ever since he walked in the building at LSU,” said Caserio. “Runs well. He plays with good technique. Plays the ball well. He plays under control. Plays with good anticipation. I think one of the benefits of watching him and following that program going back, I mean, they’ve had a lot of good players come through there.”

The Texans also have tight end Teagan Quitoriano and defensive lineman Thomas Booker under contract.
