Texans make it official, sign Honey Badger

The Houston Texans and the Honey Badger made their marriage official on Monday, signing the papers that they hope lead to championship bliss.

The Texans announced they officially signed free-agent safety Tyrann Mathieu, days after an agreement was first reported.

While the team did not disclose terms of the deal, multiple reports have it as a one-year deal worth $7 million.

Mathieu last week was released by the Cardinals, who would have owed him $19 million over the next two seasons had they picked up his option. That was part of a five-year, $62.5 million extension he signed prior to the 2016 season.

Though injuries have slowed Mathieu down, his move from cornerback to safety proved a boon to his career. He has become one of the top safeties in the league, earning All-Pro in 2015. He is also just 25 years old despite playing in the league since 2013.

For the Texans, they hope to get a big improvement in their secondary at a discount price. With both J.J. Watt and Whitney Mercilus returning from season-ending injuries, the team could be very much improved on defense on 2018.

On offense, the Texans are looking to get second-year quarterback DeShaun Watson (torn ACL) and second-year running back D'Onta Foreman (torn Achilles) back at full speed this season. The team also claimed wide receiver Sammie Coates off waivers last weekend.

With defending AFC South champion Jacksonville sporting one of the league's top defenses to go with second-year running back Leonard Fournette, Tennessee coming off a wild-card upset of Kansas City, and Indianapolis hoping to have a healthy Andrew Luck to go with a top-10 pick in the draft, the division could be one of the most up for grabs in the NFL in 2018.
