This giant taco is actually made of cheese
DILLON THOMPSON: This crazy food hack says you can make a taco shell totally out of cheese. But are we really ready to say goodbye to regular taco shells forever? To find out, we're going to try this recipe ourselves.
So these cheese tacos have been blowing up on TikTok, and it's easy to see why. They're bigger, crispier, and cheesier than traditional tacos, but we have to see how they hold up when we try them ourselves. Let's get into it.
So to start, we're going to heat a medium pan on medium heat, and then put a ton of Parmesan cheese across the bottom, heating it up after it melts until it starts to get crispy around the edges. Once that happens, we're going to flip this thing over all the way and let it cook for 30 to 45 more seconds on the other side.
Then we had to get crazy and put this thing on some kind of suspending taco-shaped drying racks so that it would fold out and turn into the shape of a real taco. In the meantime, we cooked some onions, peppers, and plant-based ground beef to go with it.
Now it's time to assemble this bad boy. We're adding the plant-based meat, the onions, the peppers, plus some avocado, cilantro, and some lime juice just to top it all off.
All right, so our cheese taco is ready, and it's time to rate this thing on two points of criteria-- convenience and, of course, taste. First up convenience.
This thing is not so easy to make. It took me a couple of tries to get it right. Heating up the cheese and getting the perfect temperature so that folds over that weird taco drying rack thing and actually makes the taco shape is really, really hard. So we're going to give it a 2 out of 5 for convenience.
Next up, taste. Oh yeah. Despite this thing being way too big for a regular person to eat, it tastes really, really, really good. The crispy crunchy cheese as a texture beyond a regular taco shell, and you get that cheese flavor baked right into it. We're going to give it a 4 out of 5 for taste.
All right, so combining our scores together, we're giving this a 6 out of 10 overall. That's not a great score, but this thing was delicious. So if you want to try making it, my recommendation is you get a bigger plate than I have so you can actually try eating this bad boy.
