Gordon Hayward brought some unexpected buzz to Charlotte on Saturday.

The Hornets came out of nowhere to land Hayward on a four-year, $120 million contract despite the free-agent forward reportedly drawing interest from the Indiana Pacers and New York Knicks.

News of Hayward's agreement quickly reached Charlotte, where his former Boston Celtics teammate, point guard Terry Rozier, was among the first to welcome the 30-year-old veteran.

Rozier and Hayward spent two seasons together in Boston but only shared the court for one season, as Hayward missed the entire 2017-18 campaign due to a gruesome ankle injury.

Rozier joined the Hornets last July as part of the Celtics' sign-and-trade to acquire Kemba Walker, and Celtics fans are holding out hope that Hayward can arrive in Charlotte the same way instead of Hayward signing with the Hornets with no return for Boston.

The two former Celtics also join Charlotte's No. 3 overall pick, LaMelo Ball, who tweeted his excitement Saturday about teaming up with Hayward.

Second-year big man P.J. Washington also retweeted Ball's tweet.

Hayward's addition may help keep the Hornets out of the Eastern Conference basement this season, but the playoffs still are a long shot for a club that hasn't made the postseason since 2016 yet is spending a whole lot of money on not much talent
