Rafael Nadal won his 16th grand slam singles title with US Open success on Sunday, and he could retire with Roger Federer both on 20 major crowns in total, according to the Telegraph’s Tennis Podcast team.

Moments after Nadal overcame Kevin Anderson 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 in the final in New York, Simon Briggs (Telegraph tennis correspondent) joined David Law and Gigi Salmon of BBC Radio 5 Live to speculate about how many more grand slam titles he could go on to win.

A flash Tennis Podcast poll of listeners revealed that more than 30 per cent of the 500+ early votes thought he could get to 19 or 20 major titles, and Simon Briggs agreed. “I think he might get to 19 or 20, and I think Federer is going to win one more (to get to 20), so it’s possible that they could both retire on 20 slams.”
