Tennessee's Kenneth George arrested after allegedly punching a police officer in Miami
Tennessee defensive back Kenneth George was arrested Thursday morning after he allegedly punched a police officer in Miami.
George was in Florida because Tennessee is on spring break and the team does not have spring practice. According to police, he was belligerent after Miami Beach police saw him walking in a street.
As the officer exited his vehicle, George yelled profanities at him, the report states. George ignored the officer's commands and walked toward him. The officer steered George toward the sidewalk and away from officers who were attempting to arrest another individual, according to the report.
George punched the officer in the head and knocked his radio from his hand, the report states. The officer tried to arrest George, but George fled, the report states. The officer and backup officers provided chase. Two officers stopped George and arrested him, after which the report states George said: "He hit me first. Why can't I hit him back?"
George was arrested on charges of battery of a police officer, two counts of resisting arrest and one count of disorderly conduct.
Tennessee said in a statement that it’s aware of George’s arrest and is gathering information.
George had three tackles in four games in 2018 as a redshirt sophomore. The Lafayette, Louisiana, native had 27 tackles and two interceptions as a redshirt freshman in 2017.
