Anderson Tejeda drills a game-tying solo home run to left field, as the Rangers make it 2-2 with two outs in the top of the 7th inning
The UFC Vegas 9: Overeem vs. Sakai athletes weighed in at the Apex in Las Vegas on Friday. Watch as Alistair Overeem, Augusto Sakai, and the rest of the UFC Vegas 9 fight card square off for the cameras following the weigh-in. Making sense of it: Teams will often release a veteran and keep the developmental player for now, and a few days later, they do the switcheroo. They do this often. They did it with Kyle Wilber and Josh Mauro last season, signing both back a few days after the waiver period and placing Isaiah Johnson and Nathan Peterman on IR with designation to return.
The theory that NFL teams would go with three quarterbacks to start the pandemic-impacted season took a hit Saturday. Perhaps most noteworthy was Miami releasing Josh Rosen, a first-round selection by Arizona in 2018 who was dealt to the Dolphins last year after the Cardinals took Kyler Murray with the top overall selection. Rosen was behind veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick and first-rounder Tua Tagovailoa on the depth chart.
At one point during training camp, Raiders coach Jon Gruden called backup quarterback Marcus Mariota a “dazzling playmaker. His immediate future suddenly quite isn't so bright. Vic Tafur of TheAthletic.com explains that Mariota hasn't become the potential alternative to Derek Carr that the one-year, $7.5 million investment would suggest.
Bob Baffert endured the lowest of lows and highest of highs within minutes in the Kentucky Derby. He was bummed before the horses left the paddock after Thousand Words reared up and fell on its side, getting disqualified and injuring Baffert's assistant trainer. That emotion was quickly replaced by Authentic's front-running victory that gave Baffert a record-tying sixth Derby win.
The Lakers trailed the Houston Rockets by only six points at the start of the fourth quarter when they tried a lineup that had never played together in a game. Kyle Kuzma, Rajon Rondo, LeBron James, Markieff Morris and Dwight Howard took the court together. Against that lineup, the Rockets quickly increased their lead to 12 before the Lakers made substitutions.
Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper was ejected for arguing with first base umpire Roberto Ortiz over a fair-foul call Saturday night in a game against the New York Mets. Harper ripped a first-pitch curveball from starter Seth Lugo in the fifth inning down the first base line. Ortiz ruled the ball was foul, and Harper put his hands on his head as he glared down the line before resuming the at-bat at Citi Field.
It's not every day that amateur golfers like you or me can relate to the professionals on the PGA Tour. Today was one of those days thanks to Rory McIlroy, who hit what might be the most relatable shot the game of golf has to offer. On Saturday during the second round of the Tour Championship, the world No. 4 and defending champion was in the thick rough after bombing a 370-yard drive on the par-5 18th hole.
If you are among the many silent Zero RB-curious fantasy managers wondering which running backs one ends up with when one embraces the theory behind the draft strategy, I've written up five of my favorite RB picks in the second half of your drafts, taking their bitcoin lunch money. There is indeed a process to drafting Zero RB candidates: ideally, we want a guy with standalone fantasy value, and if we can't get that, we want a back who would inherit most or all of a backfield's opportunity if the starter misses time. Now that you know what we're seeking in a Zero RB running back, let's get into the guys who could stumble into an early-down or every-down role, starting alongside your cast of dominant wide receivers.
With Adrian Peterson now open to join other teams after his release in Washington on Friday morning, reports are coming out that there are three teams who have inquired about picking him up for the 2020 season, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. We posited earlier on Friday that there were a number of teams who might be interested in bringing in Peterson, who is a veteran back that still has a lot to give to the game, it seems. Before the surprise release for Washington, AP was expected to be the starting RB for the 2020 season, leading a backfield of Antonio Gibson, J.D. McKissic, Bryce Love, and Peyton Barber.
Early in the fourth quarter, when Houston was starting to pull away from the L.A. Lakers, there was a possession where LeBron James got the ball out top, drove into a crowded paint — four Rockets and two Lakers — then, in frustration, gestured and yelled to his teammates “there's no spacing. The Lakers offense was gummed much of Game 1 against the Rockets, the lane felt clogged, Anthony Davis and others could not post up (harder to do against the Rockets defenders than many realize), and the Lakers 28.9% shooting from three did not make Houston pay for collapsing. LeBron is right, the Lakers need more spacing.
After an underwhelming competition in training camp, the Chicago Bears have finally chosen their starting quarterback. Fourth-year signal caller Mitchell Trubisky will get the nod over veteran Nick Foles in what was a hotly-contested battle that spanned three weeks in training camp. Especially after neither Trubisky or Foles managed to pull away in this competition.
Like every other NFL team, the Steelers were forced to trim their rosters from 80 to 53 on Saturday. It's worth noting this roster is fluid. Since teams have until noon Sunday to submit a claim for players placed on waivers or sign free agents, the 53-man roster could potentially change.

The final deadline for roster cuts in the NFL is less than 24 hours away. The Cowboys have already begun trimming their team down to the necessary limit, as they cut another four players Friday. But just because it's time to consolidate the roster, doesn't mean the Cowboys aren't looking to improve the squad.
The Seattle Seahawks are placing one of their most popular players on waivers, parting ways with defensive end/linebacker, Shaquem Griffin. Seattle selected Griffin in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft out of the University of Central Florida, where he played with his twin brother, cornerback, Shaquill Griffin. Shaquill was drafted by the Seahawks in the third round just the year before.
When word surfaced that the Patriots waived fifth-round pick Justin Rohrwasser on Saturday, the initial response was that veteran Nick Folk had won the team's kicking job. Folk may well handle the kicking duties for the Patriots, but it's not quite that simple. Jeff Howe of TheAthletic.com reports that Folk has been released.
The biggest news for the 49ers was getting wide receiver Deebo Samuel back, and there were few surprises among their moves to the 53-man roster limit. After activating Samuel from the active/non-football injury list, they still had to put three players on reserve/physically unable to perform — defensive lineman Ronald Blair III, center Weston Richburg, and defensive lineman Jullian Taylor. They also waived-injured offensive lineman Ross Reynolds, and released defensive lineman Alex Barrett, wide receiver River Cracraft, safety Johnathan Cyprien, defensive lineman Darrion Daniels, linebacker Evan Foster, offensive lineman Hroniss Grasu, tight end MarQueis Gray, tight end Chase Harrell, corner...

Jones swept past leaders Chastain and Hamlin two laps from the end to win the Xfinity Series event at Darlington Raceway on Saturday. Jones was ready when Hamlin passed Chastain in turn four on the next-to-last lap, both leaders losing momentum as they tried to handle Darlington's tricky curve. I knew it was going to come and I was ready,'' said Jones, who stayed out in front for his third win this season and fourth of his career.
