Preseason recognition continues to pile up for Tegray Scales.

The IU senior linebacker was named to the 2017 Dick Butkus Award watch list, the Butkus Foundation announced Monday. The award is given annually to the nation's top college linebacker and also honors linebackers at the high school and professional levels.

Scales was one of nine Big Ten nominees. He adds to recognition to a list that also includes the Nagurksi Award watch list (given annually to the national defensive player of the year), the Bednarik Award watch list (given annually to college football's best defensive player), Lott IMPACT Trophy watch list, First Team All-American honors from Street & Smiths and Second Team All-American honors from Athlon Sports.

The Cincinnati, Ohio native finished with a nation-leading 93 solo tackles and 23.5 tackles for loss last season, helping the Hoosiers reach the Foster Farms Bowl and back-to-back bowl appearances for the first time in 25 years.

Semi-finalists for the Butkus Award will be named October 30, with finalists chosen November 20. The winner will be notified on or before December 5.

Scales and Indiana kick off the 2017 season hosting Ohio State on Aug. 31 at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.
