Teen, 18, shot and killed on Bronx street

A gunman sprayed a barrage of bullets on a Bronx street, fatally striking a teenager Friday night, law enforcement sources said.

The 18-year-old victim was walking side-by-side with another man, heading south on Olinville Ave. towards Rosewood St. in Olinville when at least 10 shots rang out at about 6:22 p.m., law enforcement sources said.

”I saw him walk by with another gentleman and then ‘Pop! Pop! Pop!’ It was a lot of shots,” said Francisco Agostini, 52, who witnessed the melee. “The heavyset guy was running down the block and he dropped. He fell face down, right down. He fell straight on his face. The other guy was gone.”

The teen was struck at least one time in the chest. His shooter, sporting a gray and black tracksuit, ran off heading east on White Plains Road, cops said.

Cops said the victim appeared to have been targeted. It remained unclear if the man initially walking with the victim was the shooter.

“You could see the two wounds on his body,” said Agostini, pointing to his chest and abdomen.

Across the street, people rushed out of Magenta Playground which is attached to elementary school P.S. 041.

“A gentleman from the park tried to help turn him over but he was too heavy,” Agostini said of the victim. “He was trying to get him off his face. He tried to bring him around but he was not responding.”

Medics rushed the victim to Jacobi Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

“It’s too much. He was so young,” said a male relative at the hospital. “It’s crazy.”

There have been no arrests. The investigation remained underway Friday night.

“It’s a shame. A real shame,” Agostini said. “All these kids out here killing one another.”
