The opening ceremony for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang is growing closer by the day, and there’s good news: Team USA won’t be walking into the cold, cold stadium without special outfits. On Monday, Ralph Lauren released pictures of the outfits they designed for the opening ceremony, which include a tricolor coat with a heating element, a USA beanie, and a neck bandana, plus a sweater, boots, and jeans. Oh, and one more thing: a pair of tan fringed gloves. Perhaps you can pick them out of the photo below.
There’s no way you could miss those gloves, they can be seen from space. They are… something. They’re enormous and tan and fringed. And they are causing some feelings on Twitter.

Well, at least if this whole elite athlete thing doesn't work out they got the gloves to immediately start a welding career.

So maybe not the reception Ralph Lauren was hoping for! And all over the internet, people thought those gloves looked familiar. Like the gloves of a famous movie character, perhaps.

It’s undeniable. They’re Lloyd Christmas gloves. They are Lloyd Christmas oven mitt gloves! At least Ralph Lauren designed a wool beanie and not a cowboy hat, otherwise Team USA would look like a gaggle of Lloyd Christmases at the opening ceremony.
This is the sixth time Ralph Lauren has outfitted Team USA, having done both winter and summer in the past. The designer’s aesthetic is classic Americana, but these gauntlet-like gloves might be reaching a little far into the Americana barrel. It’s going to look pretty, uh, interesting to see hundreds of athletes marching together into the stadium wearing them, like a fleet of people about to reach into an oven. Hopefully they’re at least warm.
