TE Devin Asiasi among Patriots inactives as Dalton Keene makes NFL debut

The New England Patriots seem to have promoted one rookie tight end at the expense of another ahead of their matchup against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 7. Dalton Keene will make his NFL debut after a series of healthy scratches, with Devin Asiasi getting second-string work in the first six weeks of the season. Asiasi, however, is among the team’s inactives for Week 7.

Defensive tackle Carl Davis, safety Kyle Dugger, quarterback Brian Hoyer, running back J.J. Taylor and defensive back Myles Bryant were also inactive for New England. Davis, who signed with the Patriots this week, couldn’t pass health protocols in time to play on Sunday. Dugger, who had been questionable with an ankle injury, seems to be inactive due to that injury.

With Dugger inactive, New England will look to their group of defensive backs to defend George Kittle. Dugger had been a key defensive piece for New England’s tight end defense. It’s possible cornerback Joejuan Williams may step in for a big role.

The Patriots offensive line looks like the strongest unit they’ve had all year. Despite injuries and the spread of COVID-19, the Patriots will have Isaiah Wynn, Joe Thuney, David Andrews, Shaq Mason and Michael Onwenu (from left to right) in to start the game.
