Taylor Swift Announces Next Album: “Red (Taylor's Version)”

Taylor Swift has done it again.

After weeks of speculating from fans, the singer-songwriter officially announced that Red (Taylor’s Version) will be her next re-release, coming November 19. And the exciting news doesn’t stop there, because Taylor also shared that this version, which will include plenty of songs “from the vault,” will have 30 tracks on it. That’s right. 30. Freaking. Tracks. Including — wait for it — the legendary 10-minute version of “All Too Well.”

“I’ve always said that the world is a different place for the heartbroken,” Taylor wrote alongside a photo of herself wearing a red cap. “It moves on a different axis, at a different speed. Time skips backwards and forwards fleetingly. The heartbroken might go through thousands of micro-emotions a day trying to figure out how to get through it without picking up the phone to hear that old familiar voice. In the land of heartbreak, moments of strength, independence, and devil-may-care rebellion are intricately woven together with grief, paralyzing vulnerability and hopelessness. Imagining your future might always take you on a detour back to the past. And this is all to say, that the next album I’ll be releasing is my version of Red.”

Taylor went on to say that both musically and lyrically, Red is about a heartbroken person. “It was all over the place, a fractured mosaic of feelings that somehow all fit together in the end,” she added. “Happy, free, confused, lonely, devastated, euphoric, wild, and tortured by memories past.”

She added that, after recording Red in 2012, something changed within her too. “I’m not sure if it was pouring my thoughts into this album, hearing thousands of your voices sing the lyrics back to me in passionate solidarity, or if it was simply time, but something was healed along the way.”

To conclude her note, Taylor explained that she originally wrote 30 songs for Red, but not all of them made it onto the album. “Like your friend who calls you in the middle of the night going on and on about their ex, I just couldn’t stop writing.” She finished her announcement with the ultimate teaser: “This will be the first time you hear all 30 songs that were meant to go on Red. And hey, one of them is even ten minutes long.”

Naturally, the Swiftie freakout was quick and frenzied. Some fans reveled in the fact that they knew something was in the works for a while, while others pointed out that Taylor announced her version of Red on Scooter Braun’s birthday. (She did! She did that!) There was, of course, some CIA-level analysis of the dates of her re-releases, and plenty of jokes to be had about Taylor’s exes who might just be entering the witness protection program ahead of November.

If the re-release of Fearless is any indication, Red (Taylor’s Version) is going to be a journey of epic proportions. 30 songs? 10 minutes of “All Too Well?” Sad girl autumn with a PSL and a scarf (left at your sister’s house)? I don’t want to wish away the summer, but truly — November can’t come soon enough.
