Tanner Johnson, Moses Son pace Lumberjacks at Border Battle

Jan. 6—WEST FARGO, N.D. — The Bemidji High School boys swimming and diving team competed in one of its largest regular-season meets this season on Saturday.

The Lumberjacks took 15th place at the Border Battle in West Fargo, N.D., and were led by Tanner Johnson and Moses Son.

Johnson and Son raced in the 200-yard medley relay with Matthew Winkle and Daniel Scherling to an eighth-place time of 1:51.34. Johnson also took 13th in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:23.78, while Son placed seventh in the 100-yard butterfly (56.59).

Johnson and Son teamed up with Scherling and Brayden Anderson in the 200-yard freestyle relay, finishing in ninth place with a time of 1:40.17. Anderson joined Kyle Yoder, Adam Allery and Zach Roberts in the 400-yard free relay to a 14th-place time of 3:57.03.

Winkle and Scherling rounded out the point-scoring finishes for BHS. Winkle took 11th place in the 100 backstroke at 1:05.29, while Scherling took 15th in the 100 breaststroke at 1:12.47.

West Fargo won the Border Battle with a score of 287. Grand Forks KnightRiders (N.D.) (250) and Melrose/Sauk Centre (236) rounded out the top three. The Jacks finished with 70 total points.
