Jason Pierre-Paul had no idea who Mike Remmers was originally appeared on NBC Sports Northwest

As the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs prepare to meet on Sunday in Super Bowl LV, both teams are familiarizing themselves with what their upcoming opponent brings to the table.

The Chiefs will be without starting left tackle Eric Fisher, who suffered a torn Achilles during the AFC title game, as well as right tackle Mitchell Schwartz who is on Injured Reserve. This can only mean one thing for Kansas City: it’s Mike Remmers time.

When asked about the team’s preparations for Remmers on Monday, one of the Bucs top pass rushers, Jason Pierre-Paul, said he had no clue who Remmers even was was.

“I didn’t even know who that was,” Pierre-Paul said of Remmers. “Man, I’m not going to lie to you. Is this a tackle that you’re talking about? Like I said, I don’t care too much about it. They got to figure that out.”

Remmers, an undrafted free agent out of Oregon State, is expected to get the start at left tackle. The Portland native and nine-year pro will be tasked with protecting the blindside of star QB Patrick Mahomes as Bucs defenders Pierre-Paul, Shaq Barrett, and Pacific Northwest staples Vita Vea and Ndamukong Suh pursue Mahomes.

For what it’s worth, Pierre-Paul and Remmers both started in Week 12 when Remmers lined up at left tackle, as well as on December 20, 2015, when Pierre-Paul was with the New York Giants and Remmers was with the Carolina Panthers. They do know one another.

Nonetheless, the three-time Pro Bowler isn’t concerning himself with Remmers or the Chiefs’ offensive line heading into the game.

“I don’t care, it don’t matter,” Pierre-Paul said. “This is the freaking Super Bowl. I don’t care if they have three offensive linemen, send two to block me, three to block me. I’m going to do what I need to do. Us boys are going to do what we need to do. That’s a you problem, that’s like— they gotta figure that out. I’m coming to play a football game, not any football game, but Super Bowl 55. I don’t got time to play any games, the only game I’m playing is football...

To answer your question, I don’t care about their offensive linemen. I don’t care.

This certainly adds intrigue to Sunday’s Super Bowl matchup. For those tuning in, let's hope Remmers takes it personally.
