Talledega among NASCAR tracks offering facilities for those fleeing Hurricane Florence

Hurricane Florence is baring down on the Carolinas, prompting mandatory evacuation orders for almost two million residents.

NASCAR tracks around the southeast have opened their camping facilities to those seeking shelter from from the Category 3 storm expected to deliver 120 mph winds and massive rainfall to the Southeast late Thursday or early Friday.

Talladega offers free camping during Hurricane Florence

Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama has offered its camping facilities free of charge to residents seeking refuge from the storm. The largest property among NASCAR tracks, Talladega is providing access to shower facilities and water hookups for people choosing to ride out the storm on the road in RVs or tents.

“We at Talladega Superspeedway are committed to helping our friends in the Carolinas and the surrounding states during this time of need,” Talladega Chairman Grant Lynch said in a statement released Wednesday. “We hope to provide a sense of relief by offering a place to stay for no charge for evacuees during this time of adversity. Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone in the path of the storm.”

Talladega will open its facilities to refugees at 9 a.m. CDT on Thursday.

Bristol, Atlanta also open camping facilities

Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee and Atlanta Motor Speedway have also made available their camping facilities available during the storm.
