Talking Preps 12.06: Mr. Football announced, previewing NCHSAA state finals

It’s the final Talking Preps episode of the 2022 high school football season, and we’ve got a busy show. On tap for Tuesday night:

We’re starting earlier this week, at 7:30 p.m., to award the state’s biggest high school football honor. The finalists for Mr. NC Football will join us: East Forsyth’s Jaylen Alexander-Raynor, Providence Day’s Jadyn Davis and Millbrook’s Mason Fortune.

NCHSAA commissioner Que Tucker talks about the association potentially adding more classes, and the guys will respond. And Dale will have three thoughts from the semifinals: his “experience” at East Lincoln, running teams making the finals and no Charlotte teams playing this weekend.

Guru Chris will lead the state’s most comprehensive breakdown of this weekend’s NCHSAA state championship games. He’ll also debut his latest statewide rankings.

We’ll hear from the 4A coaches: Grimsley’s Darryl Brown and New Bern’s Torrey Nowell, who wants to rest the notion that eastern teams don’t play as tough a schedule as teams in the west.

We’ll also hear from the coaches of the two unbeaten 3A teams: Northern Nash’s Andrew Farriss and East Lincoln’s David Lubowicz.

Grice and Greiner will feature the #GricesGems, the NC players of the week: Keno Jones, Northern Nash; Kade Kennedy, East Duplin; Tyler Mason, Mount Airy; Lorenzo Mendoza, Reidsville; and East Lincoln’s Ben Cutter, who joins us in studio.

Grice and Greiner will also introduce four new #FreshFaces, the stars of tomorrow: Reidsville’s Que’shyne Flippen, Grimsley’s Ja’Carion Maynard, East LIncoln’s Tyler Mizzell and New Bern’s Damaree Tucker.

Finally, on #CoachvsCoach, Chris, Grice and Greiner will debate whether star players should play bowl games or get ready for the draft; whether or not Deion Sanders or Matt Rhule will work out at their new jobs; and if a CMS team will make a 2023 state championship next fall.

NOTE: Talking Preps, the basketball version, will begin in January.
