Tale of the Tape: Team Stats – Notre Dame vs. Clemson

If you’re wondering why some people actually are giving Notre Dame a chance against Clemson, consider the below chart. For every category the Irish have a disadvantage in, there seems to be an advantage that cancels the disadvantage out. For instance, they’re much better at defending the pass and are far more disciplined. Even the slight advantage in running the ball could prove advantageous during a game which is forecast to have lots of rain.

On the flip side, you can see several reasons the Tigers were voted into the first round of projected College Football Playoff berths. They’re among the best in the country at defending the rush, converting on fourth down on both sides of the ball and succeeding in the red zone. As far as matching up with the Irish, they have a huge advantage in scoring, though that should be put to the test in a wet environment. In fact, it will be interesting to see how the elements affect everything about them.
