Tahlequah wrestlers open State Tournament with chance for podium on the line

Feb. 23—The Tahlequah Lady Tigers couldn't pick up a win on the first day of the State Tournament.

Jordan Bread lost in a 5-2 decision to Ezmeralda Fuller. Bread, the No. 4, was taken down by the No. 5 seed.

Chen is scheduled to face Grace Huffman while Ingram will face Trysten Rittberger as they both look to advance to the third-place match.

On the boy's side, reining State Champion Jayden Moore lost his opening match by pin fall to Skylar Red Elk. Moore will look to grab a third-place trophy during day two against Bryson Hall.

The undefeated Canaan Brummett took down Jacob Caviness by pin fall to improve his record to 39-0 on the season. Caviness still has a chance for third place but first, he has to go through Elijah Cherry on day two.

Sonny Bullet's State was ended after one match. Bullet lost 10-3 to Niko Gonzales.

Both the Tigers and Lady Tigers will be back on the mat on Friday, Feb. 24.
