Tahlequah, Sequoyah set to kick off tournaments

Jan. 2—After two weeks a trio of area teams are looking to return to the court in tournament play on Thursday, Jan. 4.

Tahlequah and Sequoyah are all hitting the court but in different tournaments. THS will hit the court just outside of Tulsa at Verdigris for the Mother Road Classic. SHS will take the court in the Farmers State Bank Hardwood Classic in Quinton.

THS

After a two-week break, the Tigers kick off the boyss side of the tournament with a 10:30 showing against Kiefer as the No. 2 seed. If they win they will take on the winner of Wagoner and Tecumseh at 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 5. If they lose that match-up they will play at 10:30 a.m. on Friday against the loser of that game.

"I think it is going to be a good tournament that we have the chance to win if we play well," THS Head Coach Duane Jones said.

If they win two games, they will advance to the championship at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6.

The Lady Tigers will kick off their side of the tournament at noon against No. 8 Purcell. Going into the tournament the Lady Tigers are ranked as the No. 1 seed.

"Right off the bat, we play a Purcell team. You are playing a really high-caliber competition. As long as we lock in we can compete and play with anyone," Lady Tigers Head Coach David Qualls said.

If the Lady Tigers win they will play at 3:30 p.m. on Friday against the winner of Manifold and Tecumseh, if they lose they play the loser at 9 a.m.

If the Lady Tigers can pick up two wins they will play in the championship at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6.

SHS

After two weeks off over winter break, the SHS boys and girls return to the court on Thursday. If the Lady Indians win they will face the winner of Lockwood and Quinton at 7 p.m. on Friday if they lose they will play the loser at 10 a.m.

The Lady Indians open the tournament at 10 a.m. taking on Canadian. Going into the tournament the Lady Indians sit with a 1-4 record in district play.

The Indians will hit the court at 11:30 a.m. against Lakewood. If SHS wins they will play the winner of CHS and Wright City at 8:30 Friday.
