AT&T users advised to text 911 in Jackson County

Dec. 9—AT&T wireless users experiencing an emergency in Jackson County must either text 911 or navigate a phone tree to get through to a 911 dispatcher.

An outage on AT&T's end is impacting the wireless provider's "ability to deliver their customers' 911 calls," according to a news advisory from Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon issued Friday morning.

Instead of directly sending a 911 caller to an emergency dispatcher, 911 calls on AT&T are routing to ECSO's "non-emergent business lines."

For fastest response in an emergency, ECSO advises AT&T customers to either text 911 or call their main business line directly at 541-776-7206 and select on the phone tree option No. 6.

AT&T hasn't yet identified what's causing the 911 outage, according to ECSO. The agency that provides 911 services in Jackson County reported a similar AT&T outage Nov. 1 that ultimately was resolved the same day.
