Syracuse super fan Adam Weitsman made a big proclamation ahead of Monday’s matchup with Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

If the Orange beat the Blue Devils, he vowed to donate $150,000 to local Boys & Girls Clubs.

It’s a promise he made official on Twitter on game day.

Weitsman said Boeheim ‘seemed pretty confident’

And it’s reportedly an idea he shared while having lunch with Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim. ESPN reports that Weitsman was eating with Boeheim hours before the game when he expressed his confidence in the Orange pulling off the upset over the No. 1 team in the nation.

“I think you’re going to win tonight,” Weitsman said he told Boeheim, per ESPN. “He seemed pretty confident.”

His gut was right. The Orange pulled off the 95-91 upset in overtime, handing the top-ranked Blue Devils their first ACC loss.

Did he pay up? According to ESPN, he did. ESPN reports that Weitsman arranged $50,000 payments to Boys & Girls Clubs in Owego, Binghamton and Syracuse, New York, while pledging an additional $25,000 when his friends reminded him of a chapter in Endicott.

Weitsman was reportedly a convicted felon

The Network reports that Weitsman is a convicted felon who did prison time for bank fraud in 2004, but has built a billion dollar scrap metal business since his release and uses part of his fortune for philanthropic causes.

“It was the craziest thing I’ve ever been to,” Weitsman told Syracuse.com about watching the road upset of a 17-point favorite. “There were like 20 of us in Orange. It was a sea of blue, a legendary arena, like a high school gym. There are so many students there, and they are standing and jumping the whole time. I’ve been to a lot of cool sporting events, but this was the most exciting one that I’ve ever been to.”

He also explained why his charity choice on Monday was close to his heart.

“All these great players, a lot of them develop their skills at the Boys & Girls Club,” Weitsman said. “My grandfather was involved in starting the one in Owego, so it’s something that near to my heart. Hopefully it goes into some basketball programs and other after-school activities. It’s amazing to be able to help them out.”
