Syndergaard advised to continue resting injured finger

Noah Syndergaard's return to the New York Mets rotation remains on hold after he was told to rest his injured right index finger during a second opinion.

Syndergaard received the second opinion on Tuesday from a doctor in New York. He strained a ligament in the finger on his pitching hand on May 25 against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Mets manager Mickey Callaway told reporters on Wednesday that Syndergaard's finger is "tender to the touch" and he will have to give the injury time to calm down.

"Really the second opinion reconfirmed what we already knew," Callaway told reporters. "He is going to go into rest until he is symptom-free and then start throwing."

Syndergaard was 4-1 with a 3.06 ERA in 11 starts prior to the injury.
