Sylvia Fowles out indefinitely due to knee injury in final WNBA season
Minnesota Lynx center Sylvia Fowles will miss a chunk of her final season in the WNBA. Fowles is dealing with a cartilage injury in her knee, and will be out indefinitely, the team announced Thursday.
Fowles sustained the injury during the team's 88-69 loss to the New York Liberty on Tuesday. Fowles underwent an MRI, which revealed the severity of the injury. The Lynx did not reveal specifics, referring to the injury only as a "cartilage injury in her right knee." It's unclear how long Fowles will be sidelined while she recovers.
The news comes four months after Fowles, 36, announced 2022 would be her 15th and final season in the WNBA. After spending seven seasons in Minnesota, Fowles became a free agent following the 2021 season. She didn't last long on the market, and re-signed with the Lynx on the first day of free agency.

Through 12 games, Fowles is averaging 16.5 points and 10.3 rebounds.
It's unclear whether Fowles will reconsider her decision to retire if she misses a significant portion of the 2022 season.
Following Tuesday's loss, the Lynx dropped to 3-9 on the season. The team will take on the Washington Mystics on Friday.
