Surfers Come to the Rescue as Choppy California Waters Capsize Youth Sailing Club Boats

A group of student sailors learned more than they bargained for on January 10, after their dinghies overturned in rough surf following a sailing lesson near Santa Cruz, California.

Footage of the incident was captured by local photographer Connor Garde, who informed followers on Instagram that although some children were able to swim to shore, some had to be rescued by nearby surfers.

Speaking to Storyful, Garde said, “There were 12 kids coming in from a sailing lesson, back into the harbor, while there was a big set.”

Local harbor officials subsequently informed local media that all children involved in the group capsizing emerged unscathed. Credit: Connor Garde via Storyful
