SUNY Oneonta women win 62-47; Hartwick falls to Hamilton
Nov. 20—A dominant defensive performance helped the SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team defeat Mount Saint Mary 62-47 Saturday at the Oneonta and Hartwick Classic.
The Red Dragons outrebounded the Saints 54-31 while holding the opposition to 28% shooting from the field.
Molly Stephens put in 20 points to go with four assists while Sophia Wakin had nine points and six rebounds and Emma Schwarzbeck had eight points and seven boards.
Oneonta (2-2) will open conference play Dec. 1 against SUNY Brockport.
Hamilton 68, Hartwick 58 (Saturday)
The Hartwick women fell to Hamilton 68-58 Saturday at the Oneonta and Hartwick Classic.
The Hawks were held to just 16 points in the first half and couldn't find a way to claw their way back.
Bree Fargnoli was the team's leading scorer with 18 points while Isabella Astorino had 12 points and seven rebounds, Sareena DiCerbo had seven points and five rebounds and Yadi Smith finished with five points, five rebounds and four assists.
Hartwick (0-4) will host SUNY Morrisville Tuesday.
CROSS COUNTRY
Three members of the SUNY Oneonta cross country team competed in the NCAA Division III Championships in Newville, Pa., Saturday.
Megan Francoeur finished 49th overall in the women's event with a time of 22:03.6. Ella DePhillips placed 226th with a time of 23:17.4.
In the men's race, Jonthomas Bierman was 233rd in 26:33.1.
The SUNY Oneonta wrestling team competed in the SUNYAC Championships for the first time in more than 30 years Saturday in Rochester.
Jack Ryan won the 184-pound class title while Carson LiCastri finished second in the 197-pound weight class.
Also earning All-SUNYAC honors for the Red Dragons were Jhordyn Innocent, Noah Kennedy, Max Yahre, James DeLucia, Anderson Klosner and Danny Poggi.
