Report: Suns' Josh Jackson charged with resisting arrest, escape at Rolling Loud music festival
Phoenix Suns forward Josh Jackson was reportedly arrested at the Rolling Loud music festival in Miami Gardens, Florida, over the weekend.
Arizona Sports 98.7 FM obtained the Miami-Dade county police records. Jackson was arrested on a felony charge of escape and a misdemeanor for non-violently resisting an officer’s arrest. He allegedly attempted to enter the VIP section of the event multiple times without a pass, per the report.
He reportedly posted a $1,000 bond Saturday.
Report: Jackson allegedly attempted to enter VIP
The arrest was first reported via a tweet by Andy Slater of 640 The Hurricane in Miami. Slater reported that sources told him Jackson continually tried to enter a VIP area without the proper pass. He said the 22-year-old forward ran away after he was handcuffed by the police.
The three-day Rolling Loud music festival, known as the “Largest Hip-Hop Festival in the World,” is in its fifth year at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium. It was headlined by Migos on Friday, Travis Scott on Saturday and Kid Cudi on Sunday. VIP packages in the fourth row started at $5,000. Those for front row accommodations started at $20,000.
Other headline arrests included Kodak Black for an alleged connection to a weapons charge, per the U.S. Marshals Service. Lil Wayne refused to perform after being subject to search by police, according to The Associated Press.
Arrest latest issue for Suns top 2017 pick
Jackson was the fourth overall pick in the 2017 after a one-and-done season at Kansas. He entered the league under orders to take anger management classes and abstain from alcohol and recreational drugs for a year. The agreement stemmed from an incident in which he allegedly threatened a women’s basketball player with violence while he vandalized her vehicle in December 2016.
During his first season it looked like Jackson fired a pretend gun at a heckler during a game, though he insists that’s not what he was doing. He was fined $35,000 for the “menacing gesture.”
Jackson is already on the wrong side of some fans after he failed to appear for a publicized autograph session at a Phoenix grocery store in March. He was fined $20,000 for the no-show.
The Suns are hoping to make their long awaited return to the playoffs by building around a young core under new head coach Monty Williams. Jackson, poised to enter his third season this fall, averages 12.3 points per game.
The Suns told Arizona Sports 98.7 they’re aware of the report and are gathering information.
