Sun forward Alyssa Thomas named Eastern Conference Player of Week

Connecticut Sun forward Alyssa Thomas was named the WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Thomas averaged 16 points, 11 rebounds and 7.3 assists per game as the Sun went 3-0 last week, defeating the New York Liberty and sweeping a back-to-back against the Lynx in Minnesota.

Her stellar week began with an 18-point, 13-rebound, five-assist and six steal performance against the New York Liberty on Tuesday. She then recorded her first career triple-double in the win over the Lynx on Friday, posting 15 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists.

Thomas returned to the Sun this season after missing all but six games in 2021 while recovering from an Achilles injury. The three-time All-Star is averaging 13 points per game this season, to go along with a team-leading 5.8 assists and 1.6 steals in 32.4 minutes per game.

Thomas currently ranks fifth in the WNBA in both assists and rebounds per game (8.2). She previously won Eastern Conference Player of the Week honors on May 23.

The Sun return to action on Thursday night, when they’ll face Sue Bird, Breanna Stewart and the Seattle Storm at 7 p.m. at Mohegan Sun Arena.
