What would be a successful season for Hubert Davis?

The North Carolina Tar Heels will tip off the 2023-24 season on Monday night against Radford as the long wait for the new campaign is over.

After a disappointing 2022-23 season in which UNC missed out on the NCAA Tournament, Hubert Davis has to get his team back to the dance and make a run. In his third year, Davis needs to prove that last season’s misfortunes were just that, bad luck and a fluke.

But he will have to do it with a new roster.

UNC saw some changes with the roster in the offseason as they were a very active team in the transfer portal both losing players and gaining them as well for the roster. They will have three new starters as they welcome in a big transfer class as well as a two-man recruiting class for the 2022 cycle.

As we get ready for the new season, our UNC basketball roundtable continues on and today we pose the question of what will be a successful season for Hubert Davis here in year three?

Let’s take a look at our answers below.

It’s got to be making the NCAA Tournament. If Hubert can advance to the Final 4, that’ll exceed expectations. With all the veteran talent UNC has on this roster, plus the Heels’ familiarity with each other, there’s hopes for another Natty.

After last year, getting back to the NCAA Tournament would be a start for this team. However, I do think they need to make a run deep in the tournament as well. Making it to the Elite 8 would be good for this team and can sort of set a foundation for the following season as well. They have the talent and Davis needs to prove that last year was just a one season fluke.

In order for Hubert Davis to have a good third season as the men’s basketball coach, the team dances to the elite eight. Different from many programs, UNC has a ton of experience, not having to rely on freshmen who have never danced before. A sweet 16 appearance is always lovely, but after last season, the elite eight should be the expectation.
