ESL has announced plans to host a $75,000 Street Fighter V tournament at the Barclays Center from October.
Dubbed “The Brooklyn Beatdown,” Street Fighter V will join Counter-Strike: Global Offensive as part of the ESL One event taking place in Brooklyn, New York from October 1-2.
The Street Fighter V tournament will feature 1,024 players in an open bracket and one of the largest fighting game payouts of the year. ESL will also host a series of online tournaments for players to win a chance to attend and compete in the event.
“We’re very excited to bring Street Fighter V to an ESL One event,” ESL Product Manager Stuart Ewen said in a statement. “The Street Fighter community contains some of the most legendary players and moments in esports history, and we hope that with The Brooklyn Beatdown we’ll be helping to realize and relay many more of these moments to Street Fighter V fans worldwide.”
Street Fighter V at ESL One is the game’s first major event for the esports organization, which also hosts the Mortal Kombat X Pro League. The Barclays Center, home to the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets and the NHL’s New York Islanders, will be the largest venue to date to host a Street Fighter V tournament.
ESL is expected to announce more games for ESL One, which has a combined prize pool of $325,000 between CS:GO and Street Fighter V.
