Strasburg, Conotton Valley nab top two seeds in Division IV softball tournament

State-ranked Strasburg earned the top seed and Conotton Valley was No. 2 in Division IV as the East District sectional softball tournament pairings were decided Sunday.

The Tigers, ranked No. 2 in this week's state coaches poll, were voted the top seed in Division IV with 202 points with Inter-Valley Conference rival Conotton Valley, ranked No. 4, the second seed with 189 points.

Indian Valley and Harrison Central claimed No. 2 seeds in Divisions II and III, respectively.

The Braves are No. 2 with 282 points. John Glenn earned the top seed with 296 points.

The Huskies are No. 2 with 179 points. Martins Ferry earned the top seed with 206 points.

New Philadelphia is the No. 3 seed in the Northeast District East sectional. Only Austintown-Fitch and Hoover were voted higher.

In the sectional rounds, the higher seed will host the games. At the district level, the sites and times will be determined.

A look at the first-round matchups for area teams are as follows:

DIVISION IV

No. 1 Strasburg will host No. 15 and IVC rival Malvern and No. 2 Conotton Valley will entertain No. 14 River in sectional semifinals on Tuesday, May 10 at 5 p.m.

No. 6 Newcomerstown will travel to No 4 Shenandoah and No. 10 Tuscarawas Central Catholic will host No. 13 Steubenville Catholic Central on Tuesday, May 10 at 5 p.m.

The sectional finals are set for Thursday, May 12 at 5 p.m.

The district semifinals are scheduled for Monday, May 16 at 5 p.m. with the final on Wednesday, May 18 at 5 p.m.

DIVISION II

No. 2 Indian Valley will play either No. 18 East Liverpool or No. 19 St. Clairsville on Wednesday, May 11 at 5 p.m. for a sectional championship in the East 1 District.

The Potters and Red Devils will meet Monday, May 9 at 5 p.m.

No. 12 Dover will travel to No. 8 Philo for a sectional title on Wednesday, May 11 at 5 p.m., while No. 13 West Holmes will entertain No. 16 River View in a sectional semifinal with the winner to travel to No. 3 Tri-Valley for a sectional crown the same night and time.

In the East 2 District, No. 6 Claymont will host No. 7 Maysville on Wednesday, May 11 at 5 p.m. for a sectional crown and No. 17 Carrollton will travel to No. 9 and neighboring Eastern Buckeye Conference rival Minerva the same night and time for a sectional title.

The district semifinals are set for Monday, May 16 at 5 p.m. with the finals on Wednesday, May 18.

DIVISION III

No. 2 Harrison Central will entertain No. 14 Ridgewood, No. 4 Garaway will play host to No. 13 Buckeye Trail, No. 5 Tusky Valley will entertain No. 15 Coshocton, No. 10 Sandy Valley will travel to No. 7 Edison and No. 16 Hiland journeys to No. 1 Martins Ferry in sectional semifinals on Monday, May 9 at 5 p.m.

The sectional finals are set for Thursday, May 12 at 5 p.m.

The district semifinals are scheduled for Monday, May 16 at 5 p.m. with the final on Wednesday, May 18 at 5 p.m.

No. 13 Fairless is in the Division III Northeast District (Norwayne) and will play host to No. 17 Smithville in a sectional semifinal on Tuesday, May 10 at 5 p.m. The winner will play at No. 10 Black River on Thursday, May 12 at 5 p.m. for a sectional crown.

The district semifinals are set for Tuesday, May 17 at 5 p.m. with the final on Thursday, May 19 at 5 p.m.

DIVISION I

No. 3 New Philadelphia will entertain either No. 21 Stow-Monroe Falls or No. 33 Ashtabula Lakeside on Wednesday, May 11 at 5 p.m. for a sectional crown of the Division I Northeast District (Massillon).

Stow-Monroe Falls and Ashtabula Lakeside will play on Monday, May 9 at 5 p.m.
