Stonewall slips past Ada in softball matchup

Apr. 4—The Ada High School softball team fell behind early and couldn't muster enough offense to get back into the game in a 6-2 home loss to local foe Stonewall Tuesday night at the Ada Softball Complex.

The Lady Longhorns improved to 8-13 on the year, while Ada dropped to 4-5.

The Lady Cougars are off to the 19-team Kiowa Slow Pitch Tournament where they'll face Crowder at 11 a.m. today in a first-round contest.

Stonewall is scheduled to be a part of the Roff bracket at the Turnpike Showdown. The Lady Longhorns are set to battle Byng at noon today in a first-round contest to kick off the action. Tupelo will await the Stonewall-Byng winner at 1:15 p.m. Host Roff meets Maud at 2:30 p.m. and Vanoss will meet Cyril at 3:45 p.m.

Stonewall 6, Ada 2

The Lady Longhorns scored two runs in the top of the first inning and two more in the third to race to a 4-0 lead.

Ada finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning when Rylynn Truett led off with a double and both Ariana Munoz and Brayleigh Stephens followed with walks to load the bases for the Lady Cougars.

Truett came home on a sacrifice fly by Kiki Williams but that's all the runs Ada could get, stranding runners at first and third.

Stonewall tacked on two more runs in the top of the fifth to go on top 6-1.

Munoz belted a solo home run with one out in the bottom of the sixth for the game's final tally.

Abbey Strong came up with two of five total AHS hits from her leadoff spot. Makenzi Burden had the only other Ada hit.

Lilly Wyche led a 10-hit Stonewall offense, going 2-for-2 with a double, two walks and three runs scored. Faith Ross went 2-for-4 and also scored three runs for the visitors. Kylie Alford was credited with two RBIs.

Both teams had several missed scoring opportunities in the game. Stonewall stranded nine total base runners and the Lady Cougars had seven players left on base.
