After closing its doors to the public and pausing all intake of stray dogs due to a possible bacterial outbreak, the Stockton Animal Shelter is back to accepting healthy stray dogs, the shelter announced on Sunday via their Facebook page.

“Healthy stray dogs will be accepted with respect to our previous COVID-19 appointment protocols,” the shelter said.

The shelter paused intake of stray dogs on Jan. 18 over concerns over a possible bacterial outbreak. An evaluation determined there was no outbreak and the reason for the death of one of the shelter’s dogs was non-communicable.

The shelter continues to encourage the community to consider giving a home to a fury new friend through adoption or fostering as they continue being at “near or at capacity” for several months.

“All adoption fees are currently waived,” the shelter said.

Last week, the Stockton Animal Shelter website had 128 dog profiles ready for adoption. As of Tuesday, the number of profiles is down to 113.
