Winners and losers
Stocks in the red include US Steel as guidance missed the mark and the steelmaker warned of “operational volatility” in the coming year; Charter Communications as the cable operator lost 122,000 video subscribers for the first quarter; and Starbucks, with shares cooling off as same-store sales growth of 2% didn’t wow investors.
Stocks in the green include Expedia, as the online travel agent reported a 15% year-over-year increase in bookings; Sprint as Reuters reports that merger talks are progressing with T-Mobile and the two wireless carriers are hoping to complete negotiations as early as next week; and KLX, as the Journal reports Boeing is nearing a deal to buy the aerospace-parts company for $3.7 billion.
