Stock up, stock down following the Bills’ loss to the Jets

Following the Buffalo Bills’ 22-16 loss to the New York Jets in Week 1 of the 2023 regular season, here is Bills Wire’s latest stock report:

Stock down: QB Josh Allen

In a game in which Allen started the game decently well, he finished the disappointing loss with four turnovers (3 interceptions and 1 fumble). Throughout the game, Allen seemed to make good decisions except for the four plays that resulted in giving the ball to the Jets, especially on some of his throws to Stefon Diggs that were in double-coverage.

Stock down: RB James Cook

Cook being listed as a stock down is less about him playing poorly, since he had a fine performance given how stout the Jets’ defense is, but about the relative lack of big plays that he was able to provide. Cook did have runs of 13 yards and 12 yards over the course of the game, but other than that, he was relatively ineffective.

Stock up: WR Stefon Diggs

Diggs was incredible all game long. While that is nothing new for one of the best wide receivers in the NFL, Diggs was almost impossible to cover no matter who was guarding him. Whenever Buffalo needed a big play, Diggs was open and ready to catch the ball.

Stock down: DT Ed Oliver

Oliver did not pile up a bunch of stats, but he disruptive all game long. Not only was he in on a sack, but he also had a tackle for a loss and had three quarterback hits to show how much he was terrorizing the Jets’ offensive line and the backfield as well.

Stock up: LB Matt Milano

Milano showed against the Jets why he is one of the better linebackers in the league. As usual, he was in on most tackles, but in addition to that, he did a god job in pass coverage as well. Milano picked off a pass for an interception and tried his best to track Jets RB Breece Hall out of the backfield.

Stock up: DE Leonard Floyd

While his sack of Aaron Rodgers will be replayed for the next week or so because of the injury of Rodgers, the play was a testament to how disruptive Floyd was throughout the game. Floyd had 1.5 sacks and two QB hits to show how much he utilized his speed to give Jets Right tackle Mekhi Becton trouble.

Stock up: K Tyler Bass

Bass was lights out all game long despite weather conditions not being the best because of the rain that took place before the game started. He made field goals of 40 yards, 34 yards, and 50 yards, even though the 50-yard field goal was too close for comfort as it hit the left upright before going through.

Stock down: WR Gabe Davis

Davis did not have the worst game in the world as he had just four targets, but after having a catch going for 26 yards, showing that he could make a play against the Jets’ secondary, finishing the game with just 32 yards seems like a letdown. Davis has to be the second-best receiver on the team and be able to take advantage of matchups against opponents’ second-best cornerback if Buffalo is going to make a playoff run.
