Still feeling ‘a little bit of tightness,’ Celtics’ Jaylen Brown optimistic for Boston’s potential

Jaylen Brown returned to the court in the Boston Celtics’ 108 – 90 home win over the Houston Rockets Monday night after missing eight games due to a strained right hamstring, but you wouldn’t have guessed it was still bothering him a little based on how he was playing that night.

The Georgia native scored 19 points in 23 minutes of play — still on a minutes limit as a precaution — including an electric sequence in the third quarter that saw him hang 10 points on the Rockets in just over a minute of play. “I felt I felt good to be back out there, being with my teammates competing,” said Brown after the game. “I didn’t feel my best out there.

“I felt good all the way going up into the game, and I had a little bit of tightness, but we’ll see how I feel tomorrow,” he added.

Asked how he was coping with the lingering tightness, the Celtics star said, “Just trusting the medical staff and continuing to find ways to get better. This is a little bit of a nagging injury.”

“I’ve had a hamstring injury a few times now, and this one seems to be lingering a little bit. But I have faith that in the next coming days, I’ll get back to feeling 100%. And we’ll get back to adding to winning. This group has played extremely well while I’ve been out. I’ve seen a lot of steps forward from a lot of guys. That makes me excited about our potential.”

“I just want to continue to add value, and play off those guys and keep winning games,” finished Brown.

Given the recurrent nature and ease of reinjury with hamstring woes, Brown is absolutely correct in his exceptionally cautious approach to the injury.

It seems he is moving in the right direction given the results we saw vs. Houston on Monday, but if he is to be available in the Celtics brutal stretch of games coming up in December, such a perspective is likely to be key to it taking shape.
