Steve Nash and the Nets agreed to part ways, and reportedly, suspended Celtics head coach Ime Udoka will sign with Brooklyn as their next head coach. The NFL trade deadline saw a record ten trades on its final day including Calvin Ridley to the Jaguars, Bradley Chubb to the Dolphins, Chase Claypool to the Bears, and T.J. Hockenson to the Vikings.
- Steve Nash. Steve Nash is saying, what did I do? What did I do? [INAUDIBLE]
JARED QUAY: If you haven't heard already, the Brooklyn Nets fired Head Coach Steve Nash.
- Extra, extra, read all about it.
JARED QUAY: OK, officially the two sides mutually agreed to "part ways" just seven games into the season. And let's be brutally honest here. Since the Nets acquired big name talents in Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, the Nets have under-performed. So somebody's head had to roll.
- Off with his head.
JARED QUAY: And I don't want to say Steve Nash's blow up on the sideline last week against the Bucks, which led to his ejection, is the reason he got fired, but it sure didn't help his cause for sticking around. And I wish I could tell you that the story was over.
- But wait. There's more.
JARED QUAY: Suspended Celtics Head Coach Ime Udoka will reportedly become the next head coach for the Nets.
- Say what?
JARED QUAY: According to Woj, the deal should be finalized within the next day or two. Ime was suspended by the Celtics for reportedly having an improper intimate and consensual relationship with a female member of the team staff.
- Yeah, they're panicking right now. I could feel it.
JARED QUAY: After months of speculation, details on the situation are scarce, but the Celtics will reportedly let Ime out of his contract to take another job, which means they probably wanted him out the door like yesterday.
- Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
JARED QUAY: Now I don't know how smart it is to hitch a coach who comes with baggage to a drama filled Nets team. But coaching-wise, it makes sense. Ime lead the Celtics to the finals last season. And before that, he was an assistant under Steve Nash on the Nets.
- Circle of life.
JARED QUAY: Yesterday was the NFL trade deadline and a lot of teams must have been procrastinating because we saw the most deals ever on deadline day at 10.
- Holy moly.
JARED QUAY: Suspended Falcons receiver Calvin Ridley is headed to Jacksonville. Hopefully he's learned his lesson because nobody should be betting on the Jaguars. The Dolphins traded running back Chase Edmonds, a first round pick, and a fourth round pick to the Broncos for linebacker Bradley Chubb and a fifth round pick.
The Bears are trying to get Justin Fields some help by trading for Steelers receiver Chase Claypool. And the Lions are asking to get their asses whipped even harder when they play the Vikings by trading them their tight end TJ Hockenson.
Yeah, the NFL trade deadline was nuts. And I won't say it's my favorite time of the year because everybody know that's Christmas. But the deadline day is a close second, all right.
And usually it's just smoke. A bunch of people like, we should do this, we should do that. Today it was full out fire. Too much fire. In fact, where's Smokey the Bear.
