Gostkowski has made 7-of-8 field goals but has only converted on 11-of-14 extra points to kick off the Patriots' campaign. Against the Buffalo Bills, he missed an extra point which could have been crucial had the team's defense not been able to lock down the Bills' offense in their 16-10 win.
Of course, the Patriots are still undefeated, so Gostkowski's missed kick didn't have a major impact on the team at the end of the day. But he was still critical of his performance after the win.
"It's me," Gostkowski said when asked what the problem with the Patriots' field goal operation was after the game. "I'm just not very consistent right now."
Though Gostkowski has missed at least one kick in each of the past three weeks, the Patriots are still likely to stick with him. Gostkowski has made 87.4 percent of his career field goals and 98.5 percent of his extra points. He has more talent than the kickers available on the free-agent market, so the Patriots likely aren't even considering a move at this point in time.
Perhaps Gostkowski is just trying to kick his way out of a mini-slump. If he can regain his prime form, his performance shouldn't be too much of a problem.
