Stephen F. Austin muscles past Abilene Christian women in WAC basketball play
Three Stephen F. Austin players scored in double figures as the Ladyjacks beat Abilene Christian 66-53 in a Western Athletic Conference women’s basketball game Saturday at Moody Coliseum.
Jordan Harrison led SFA (18-4 overall, 8-2 WAC) with a game-high 19 points. Kurstyn Harden followed with 11, while Avery Brittingham had 10 and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Maleeah Langstaff led ACU (10-11, 4-6) with 17 points. Aspen Thorton added 13 and Addison Martin had eight as the Wildcats lost their third consecutive game.
SFA, which trails only Southern Utah (13-7, 9-0) in the WAC, swept the regular-season series from the Wildcats. The Ladyjacks won 83-78 on New Year’s Eve in Nacogdoches.
In the second meeting, SFA outscored the Wildcats 10-2 in the final 5:06 of the first half to overcome a 23-22 deficit to lead 33-25 at halftime.
The Ladyjacks pushed their lead to 10 early in the third quarter, but ACU shaved its deficit to three. SFA answered with a 10-0 run and held on to take a 13-point lead (52-39) into the final quarter.
SFA led by as much as 17 in the fourth quarter as ACU never got closer than 11.
SFA shot 49% from the field (24-of-49), including 3-of-17 3-point goals. The Ladyjacks were 15-of-22 from the free-throw line.
ACU hit 36% from the field (19-53), including just 4-21 3s. The Wildcats were 11-18 from the free-throw line.
ACU turned SFA over 22 times and scored 24 points off the miscues, but the Wildcats had 19 turnovers and gave up 21 points off them.
SFA also dominated ACU in the paint 42-26.
ACU plays Utah Valley (5-16, 2-8) at 2 p.m. Monday at Moody. The Wolverines beat Tarleton 63-59 in overtime Saturday in Stephenville to snap an eight-game skid.
ACU earlier beat Utah Valley 71-50 in Utah.
