Steelers legend Terry Bradshaw opens up about cancer diagnoses in exclusive interview

Steelers Legend Terry Bradshaw has opened up about his cancer diagnoses in an exclusive interview with NBC News.

“I didn’t talk about it because I didn’t want pity,” the NFL Hall of Famer told NBC’s Harry Smith in a sit-down conversation that aired on the network Wednesday.

Bradshaw revealed last month that he had been diagnosed with bladder cancer in November 2021. The revelation came after fans questioned why the 74-year-old had seemed out of breath during a FOX NFL Sunday show in September.

The legendary Steelers quarterback also said he was later diagnosed with a rare, aggressive type of skin cancer, Merkel cell carcinoma, in March.

“Now, this bothered me.”

His wife, Tammy Bradshaw, also took part in the exclusive sit-down, and said “inside, I carried a lot more worry and stress than what I let him know.”

Yet the former Steelers quarterback never missed a single week of broadcast while undergoing treatment. Today, he is cancer free and thankful for the support of his family, and especially Tammy.

“I can’t put into words how thankful I am for her, seriously. I can’t imagine not holding her hand when we take off on a plane. Or when we land. Or when we snuggle up when we’re in bed together.”

The sweet words come from a tough competitor.

Bradshaw won four Super Bowl titles for the Steelers, and is remembered for throwing the “immaculate reception” pass to Franco Harris in 1972.

Next month, he will be joining a few former teammates, including Harris, to commemorate the 50th anniversary.

He and his wife also plan to soon travel to Europe.

“I may have 25, 30 years left,” he said. “But I’m going to act like I got one!”
