Should the Steelers make another ‘Minkah Fitzpatrick’ trade this week?

Back in 2019, the Pittsburgh Steelers found themselves in trouble early in the season. The team has a calamity at the quarterback position and the season was in a spiral after only a few games. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was lost for the season and the season appeared to be lost.

The Steelers’ front office didn’t just sit back and ride out the season, instead, they took action. On September 16 the Steelers sent a first-round pick to the Miami Dolphins for safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and draft picks. The move turned out to be a near-perfect trade for the Steelers and helped salvage some semblance of a successful season and had themselves the best all-around safety in the league.

Fast-forward to now and things are eerily similar. Dysfunction at quarterback and a rough start to the season with no answers on the roster to what ails the team.

Is it time for the front office to make another huge move? If so, what position do they target? Most didn’t see free safety as a top need while the offense was melting down after Ben Roethlisberger was lost for the season but it worked.

On paper, the defense would be the easiest way to help the team. This might seems counter-intuitive given how much the team has already invested in the roster. Just like in 2019.

What position would the front office look at? Think middle of the defense. A massive defensive tackle to upgrade the run game would make perfect sense. There might not seem like there are lots of guys on the market but you’d be shocked how a first-round pick as an offer will change that.

As much as it pains me to say it, inside linebacker is still a need. Despite having Devin Bush who the team traded up for in 2019 and signing Myles Jackin the offseason, Pittsburgh has shown they are still hunting for help in the middle of the defense.

If the team feels like it can be competitive this season, there is no reason to sit back and not make a move. Let us know in the comments what position you would target in a trade to help keep the Steelers in the playoff hunt.
