Stats, Highlights: Warriors’ Klay Thompson scores 17 points in 20 minutes during comeback vs. Cavs

After over two long seasons away from the game due to a knee and Achilles injury, Klay Thompson made his highly-anticipated return to the court on Sunday night against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Following a raucous introduction in front of the Golden State Warriors’ home fans at San Francisco’s Chase Center, Thompson officially joined Steph Curry and his teammates in the starting lineup for the first time in 941 days.

Thompson quickly set an emotional crowd at Chase Center into a frenzy with a quick bucket on his first attempt on Golden State’s opening possession.

The Warriors didn’t push Thompson in his return, limiting him to short bursts of minutes in his season debut. The 31-year-old guard played the opening four minutes of the game before being subbed out to a standing ovation from the home crowd.

While playing 20 minutes in his return, Thompson showed different flashes of his former All-Star form, including a powerful dunk and quick barrage of 3-pointers.

Thompson finished the contest with 17 points on 7-of-18 shooting from the floor with three rebounds, an assist and a block against the Cavs. The five-time All-Star drilled three triples on eight attempts from deep in his return.

Outside of Steph Curry’s game-high 28 points, Thompson was the second-highest scorer in Golden State’s victory over Cleveland, 96-82.

Here is a look at some of Thompson’s highlights from his return on Sunday night in the Bay Area.
