Death investigation continues after man's body found in Paxton woods
PAXTON — State police are investigating after a man was found dead Saturday morning in a wooded area on a side street off Route 122.
The incident on Asnebumskit Road is being investigated as an “unattended death,” a spokesperson for the Worcester District Attorney's Office said Sunday morning.
An autopsy will be performed by the office of the chief medical examiner to determine the cause and manner of death, the spokesperson said.
Authorities declined to identify the man Sunday until family members had been notified.
Emergency services arrived at the area around 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning, according to police logs.
A section of Asnebumskit Road remained closed Sunday as several state and local police vehicles were seen on that stretch of road near the intersection of Route 122.

Investigators were seen shoveling snow into the roadway and passing metal detectors over the snow in areas close by. They continued to work even as a brief downpour descended on the area.
A nearby resident said the part of Asnebumskit Road where the body was apparently found had been closed off since 11:30 a.m. Saturday. She said authorities hadn't told her anything and expressed concern for safety in what she said is an otherwise peaceful neighborhood.
The Paxton Police Department, State Police Crime Scene Services and Crime Lab, State Police K-9 Unit, the State Police Firearms Identification Section and the State Police Special Emergency Response Team (SERT) are assisting in the ongoing investigation, the district attorney's office said.
Police have declined to say whether the discovery is related to the 2016 disappearance of Ali Kamhaz, then 88, who went missing from the area.
At the time, he was living with his family at 7 William Allen Drive. A missing person poster for Kamhaz was still pinned on a notice board at the police station, along with that of Marc Daniels, who went missing from Milford in 2017.
State police were seen Sunday at the home Kamhaz shared with his family.
