State-bound: Area grapplers compete for CIF state championships this weekend

Feb. 20—The road to Bakersfield is complete with area wrestlers making plans to travel south for one of the premier events in the country starting Thursday.

There are three sessions — and two tournaments — happening this weekend. The girls wrestling tournament, a newer phenomenon, will have four grapplers from the area competing for California Interscholastic Federation state championships in their designated weight class.

From Sutter Union High, junior Akirah Bremmer, will represent the area and Sac-Joaquin Section in the 115-pound class. Bremmer is joined by 125-pounder Jaelyn White of Yuba City, Emma Mallen (145-pounder from Marysville) and 235-pound participant Talia Katzenberger of River Valley.
