Stars grapple way to senior night win

Jan. 10—The Western Boone wrestling team put on a good show for the home faithful for the final time this season on Tuesday night.

The Stars topped Parke Heritage 60-24 on senior night in the final home dual of the season.

WeBo also held a youth night Tuesday, meaning there was a large crowd to cheer on the Stars to victory.

"The atmosphere tonight was great and our guys were amped up for it," Western Boone head coach Wes Mikesell said. "It's always nice to wrestle at home, and we wrestled well tonight."

The Stars got a win at 285 when Josh Dickey won via injury default after securing a takedown in the first period.

Cale Scagnoli, Jacob Anderson and Nate Moore all picked up first-period pins, and with a forfeit win from Isaac Moore, the Stars led 30-6.

Isaiah Garland had a third-period pin and Lincoln Rose added won in the second period to make it 42-6.

Trey Fuston and Mason Adams made it six pins in a row for the Stars to make it 54-6. After three-straight wins for the Wolves, Jacob Smith finished things off with a pin.

Before the match, the Stars honored their three seniors — Adams, Dickey and Nate Moore.

"They have all done great things to grow our program," Mikesell said. "That is going to help us out for years to come. Especially Mason Adams. He's been a four-year varsity wrestler, has improved a lot over the years and really helped the guys around him. They are all going to be missed."

Western Boone heads to North Montgomery for the conference tournament on Saturday.

"This is a confidence booster for our guys," Mikesell said. "Our goal tonight was to get on and off the mat, and we went out there and did that. We did a good job of going out and getting a lot of first-period pins, which is a good boost heading into conference."
