Star Wars Battlefront 2, the sequel to EA's 2015 shooter that's a reboot to the Star Wars BattleFront series from 2004 and 2005, is out just next week. It's a first person shooter taking play in, you guessed it, the Star Wars universe, across its history, even bending some of it to make heroes from different eras in the Star Wars universe fight each other. At first, it's not coming with any reference to the next Star Wars film, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but some free downloadable content (DLC) in December is changing that.

It's part of Star Wars Battlefront 2: The Last Jedi Season, which coincides with the release of The Last Jedi. On December 5, players will be able to choose to side with either The First Order or The Resistance within Star Wars Battlefront 2, unlocking rewards for that faction. That then continues throughout this season, and a week later new heroes, maps, and single player missions will be given to all players.

For The Resistance, Finn from Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be coming to the game, while The First Order will be able to play as Captain Phasma. The two new maps are Crait, a Galactic Assault map, and D'Qar, a Starfighter assault map. There's also a new A-wing to go with D'Qar, Tallie Lintra's RZ-2 A-wing, with Poe Dameron's T-70 X-wing also getting an ability inspired by Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Finally, the new single-player missions are called Star Wars Battlefront 2 Resurrection, taking place during The First Order's early days alongside Commander Iden Versio.

In weeks three and four of the event there will be new challenges and holiday playlists for maps to play, but otherwise, that's the key part of the update. Note down December 13 in your diary, because that's when week two, the biggest week of the event, starts.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 where to buy

Star Wars Battlefront 2 itself releases on November 17, for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. This is year it has a brand new single-player mode, on top of multiplayer battles, as well as space combat. A beta took place earlier this year to show off and test the multiplayer modes.
