Star Joel Embiid pushing himself, Sixers to be ready for the playoffs

The Philadelphia 76ers are on another hot streak. They have won six in a row following a 118-109 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on the road on Wednesday. The Sixers kept pace with the Boston Celtics; they are a game out of second place in the Eastern Conference.

Joel Embiid had another masterful performance. He poured in 36 points on 12-for-19 shooting, and he pulled down 18 rebounds to go along with four blocks. It was another one of those performances to support his case for the MVP award.

Since the All-Star break, he has taken his game to another level, and he has made sure he is in a position to help the Sixers finally get over the hump in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

“It’s time to go,” Embiid told reporters. “The playoffs are around the corner. We still got a lot more games to go, but you want to go to the playoffs with the right mentality and be great defensively and try to find ways to dominate offensively.”

Normally, Embiid saves his best for the playoffs, but he has decided to kick his game into high gear now.

“I don’t think I’m at my best yet,” he added. “I think I’m trending toward that. I think I got a lot more to give. Defensively, I’m getting there. I’m getting back to myself. Usually, I take another step in the playoffs. The last couple of games has been a huge focus for me. Especially, since the All-Star break.”

The fact Embiid believes he has another level to reach with 14 games to go is a scary thought. Since the break, the big fella is averaging a robust 35.1 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists while shooting 55.9% from the floor. There hasn’t been a clear way to stop him.

“Just winning games,” Embiid finished. “Try to get better every single day. One game at a time. Like I said, try to get better every single day. Trying to find ways to win. What works offensively. What works defensively. We’re in a pretty good spot.”

The Sixers will continue their road trip on Friday when they take on the Charlotte Hornets.
