St. Petersburg food hall 22 South closes
One of St. Petersburg’s new restaurants is closing its doors for good.
After opening April 30, 22 South food hall announced its closure Wednesday morning on Facebook. The restaurant cited the surprise death of Vincent Jackson, one of its partners, earlier this year as a main reason for the decision. According to the Facebook post, “the lack of desire by his trust to continue has caused our inability to continue operations.”
The food hall will attempt to find a new home for the restaurants that were operating out of its kitchens. 22 South served as an incubator for restaurants, with the eventual goal being that the restaurants could gain popularity and move out to full-sized establishments. It was housed in the Historic Manhattan Casino, which anchored the 22nd Street S corridor known as the Deuces.
The Tampa Bay Times recently visited 22 South for a food review and, at the time, five of the seven original restaurants were still operating out of the food hall: Betterway BBQ, Irie Mon Jamaican Grill, VJ’s, Shokkan Sushi and St. Pete’s Bowls.
