St. Anthony boys defeat Robinson; Effingham girls defeat Newton

Jan. 5—ROBINSON — The St. Anthony Bulldogs defeated Robinson, 65-38, at Robinson High School.

St. Anthony (13-4) led 14-11 after the first quarter, 32-21 at halftime and 52-31 heading into the fourth. The Bulldogs then outscored the Maroons 13-7 in the final frame.

Ryan Schmidt led St. Anthony with 19 points. Brock Fearday had 16. Collin Westendorf had 12. Aiden Lauritzen had six. Brady Hatton and Max Koenig each had four and Sam Link and Henry Brent each had two.

Olney (Richland County) 52, Effingham 26

The Effingham Flaming Hearts fell to Olney (Richland County), 52-26, at Effingham High School.

Effingham (2-15) trailed 20-7 after the first quarter. The Hearts were outscored 12-9 in the second, 14-5 in the third and 6-5 in the fourth.

Cole Phillips led Effingham with 10 points. Ethan Jones had five. Cannon Bockhorn and Hayden Wendling each had three. KJ Kellams and Adam Flack each had two and Wade Bushur had one.

Dieterich 64, Paris 51

The Dieterich Movin Maroons defeated Paris, 64-51, at Paris High School.

Dieterich (11-4) led 17-7 after the first quarter, 36-22 at halftime and 50-40 heading into the fourth. The Movin Maroons then outscored the Tigers 14-11 in the final frame.

Lucas Westendorf led Dieterich with 15 points. Landen Keck had 14. Tanner Will, Jaxon Funneman and Caleb Gephart each had 12 and Luke Wente had two.

Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor 41, Neoga 35

The Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor (WSS) Hatchets defeated the Neoga Indians in a National Trail Conference contest, 41-35, at Neoga High School.

Neoga (3-12, 0-4 league) led 10-7 after the first quarter. WSS (8-9, 1-1 league) outscored the Indians 13-10 in the second and 12-5 in the third. Neoga bested the Hatchets 10-9 in the fourth.

Connor Manhart led WSS with 10 points. Jackson Gurgel had nine. Nathaniel Gracey and Aiden Sayers each had seven. Brody Hendrickson had five and Blayzz Verdeyen had three.

Trey Sheehan led the Indians with 14 points. Luke Keller had nine. Gavin Ray had five. Landon Titus had three and James Bullock and Braydon Letterle each had two.

St. Elmo/Brownstown 69, Hutsonville/Oblong-Palestine 47

The St. Elmo/Brownstown (SEB) Eagles defeated Hutsonville/Oblong-Palestine (OPH), 69-47, at Oblong High School.

Cade Schaub led SEB (11-3) with 23 points (10 of 13 shooting), five rebounds, six steals and three assists. Adam Atwood had 16 points (5 of 17), nine rebounds, seven steals and two assists. Brody Mason had 12 points (4 of 4), six rebounds and one assist. Josiah Maxey had eight points (3 of 6), three rebounds, five steals and five assists. Lowell Wilhour had six points (1 of 2), one rebound, one steal and two assists and Collin Maxey had four points (2 of 5), one rebound and two assists.

Rochester 65, Newton 44

The Newton Eagles fell to Rochester, 65-44, at Rochester High School.

Newton (12-5) trailed 17-10 after the first quarter. The Eagles were outscored 16-9 in the second, 16-12 in the third and 16-13 in the fourth.

Caden Nichols had 16 points. Grant Ochs had 12. Gus Bierman and Parker Wolf each had six and Jacob Weber had four.


Effingham 51, Newton 26

The Effingham Flaming Hearts defeated the Newton Lady Eagles, 51-26, at Newton High School.

Effingham (15-3) led 12-6 after the first quarter. The Flaming Hearts outscored Newton (10-8) 10-3 in the second, 19-9 in the third and 10-8 in the fourth.

Averie Wolfe led Effingham with 13 points. Olivia Moser had 10. Sidney Donaldson and Bella Austin each had eight. Saige Althoff had six and Alyssa Martin, Bria Beals and Mya Harvey each had two.

As for the Lady Eagles, Lilly Kessler had eight points, seven rebounds and two steals. Elley Bennett had seven points. Karasyn Martin had six points and two steals. Camryn Martin had four points, six rebounds and two steals and Izzy Meinhart had one point.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 52, Dieterich 50

The Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City (CHBC) Bobcats defeated the Dieterich Movin Maroons in a National Trail Conference contest, 52-50, at Cowden-Herrick High School.

Dieterich (11-6, 2-3 league) led 12-11 after the first quarter. CHBC (8-8, 2-2 league) outscored the Movin Maroons 20-14 in the second and 18-12 in the fourth. Dieterich bested the Bobcats 12-3 in the third.

Macee Rodman led CHBC with 25 points and 12 rebounds. Ruby Stuckmeyer had nine points, nine rebounds, two steals and two blocks. Marissa Summers had seven points. Karlee Smith had four points. Baya Fingo had four points, two steals and two assists and Ines Saez had three points and six rebounds.

As for the Movin Maroons, Miley Britton had 19 points. Addison Miller had nine. Ruby Westendorf had seven. Kady Tegeler had six. Sammi Goebel and Ella Kreke each had four and Estella Meinhart had one.

Altamont 76, Palestine/Hutsonville-Oblong 49

The Altamont Lady Indians defeated Palestine-Hutsonville/Oblong (OPH), 76-49, at Altamont High School.

Altamont (14-2) led 18-9 after the first quarter, 34-16 at halftime and 61-32 heading into the fourth. The Pioneers outscored the Lady Indians 17-15 in the final frame.

Grace Nelson led Altamont with 22 points. Skylie Klein had 15. Peyton Osteen had 12. Kaylee Lurkins had 11 and Brianna Grunloh had eight.

Farina (South Central) 55, Martinsville 26

The South Central Lady Cougars defeated Martinsville, 55-26, at Martinsville High School.

South Central (10-6) led 24-5 after the first quarter, 30-7 at halftime and 48-16 after the third quarter. The Bluestreaks outscored the Lady Cougars 10-7 in the final frame.

Taegan Webster led South Central with 22 points. Lauren Johnson had 11. Percilla Reid and Brooke Cowger each had five. Kaitlin Swift had four. Addi Conant, Amelia Montes and Jasmin Modesty each had two and Maddie Green and Kyra Swift each had one.
