Sports shorts: Tigers squeak past Bruins in volleyball

Mar. 12—The Tokay High boys volleyball team scratched out a 3-2 victory over Bear Creek on Monday, beating the Bruins 23-25, 25-20, 23-25, 25-21, 18-16. Tokay (3-6) will host Franklin of Elk Grove today.


Varsity: Manteca 9, Lodi 0

The Flames suffered a two-hit shutout on Monday, with singles from Abby Schweigerdt and Kiki Mazza breaking up a potential no-no. Lodi did have batters reach on four walks, a hit batsman and a fielder's choice.

Manteca racked up 10 hits and six walks in the win. Lodi is now 6-3, and will host Cosumnes Oaks today, and will open Tri-City Athletic League play on Thursday.


Varsity: Argonaut 10, Galt 2

Argonaut broke open a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning on Monday, sending Galt to a 2-3 record this season. For Galt, Anthony Trejo went 2-for-3 with a double, Michael Perucca had a double and scored both runs, and Anthony Arriaga, Tyler Braun and Tyler Watts each singled.

Galt was scheduled to play at Bradshaw Christian in Sierra Valley Conference play on Tuesday.

JV: Argonaut 12, Galt 3

The JV Warriors also lost big on Monday, with a 2-for-3 day from James Gilbert with a dobule, a double from Cash Myrick, a 3-for-3 day with two runs from Carlo Sterni, and a single from Arthur Cordova.
