Sports shorts: No-hitter spurs Liberty Ranch baseball to victory

Feb. 28—Kade Lecompte pitched a no-hitter as the Liberty Ranch baseball team improved to 2-0 on Tuesday. The Hawks shut out Johnson 12-0 in a game that ended on the 10-run rule after five innings.

Lecompte, a junior, allowed baserunners on a walk and a hit batsman, but the rest was smooth sailing, with 11 strikeouts in 16 batters faced.

At the plate, Garrett Owen led the charge with a 4-for-4 day, with a double, two RBIs and three runs. Shaye Setter and Nolan House each went 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and two runs each, Lecompte had a double and two RBIs, and Mario Robalcava and Vance Moe each singled.

Liberty Ranch will host Argonaut on Friday.


NorCal D4 boys playoffs: Archie Williams 7, Galt 4

The Warriors' season came to an end in the first round of the CIF NorCal Division IV playoffs on Tuesday, when fifth-seeded Archie Williams out of San Anselmo pulled away with four goals in the second half.

Miguel Garcia finished with a hat trick for No. 4 Galt, with three goals and an assist, to bring his season total to 60 goals and 30 assists, according to Christian Gomez also scored for the Warriors.

Galt finished the season with a 19-2-4 record, with its only losses coming against Natomas in the Sac-Joaquin Section D4 championship, and to Archie Williams in the NorCal bracket. Archie Williams (12-7-4) moves on to the semifinals, where the Peregrine Falcons will play at No. 1 University in San Francisco.


Varsity: Tokay 15, Edison 11

Edison scored nine runs between the fifth and sixth innings on Tuesday, but Tokay had enough of a cushion to ride out the rally and win. Tokay tallied five doubles in the victory.

At the plate, Sophia Galletti went 4-for-4 with two doubles, three RBIs and three runs, Hannah Nava went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs, Brooklyn Jeremic-Schaede went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs, Cloe Alves went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Makayla Lawson had a double and two runs, Anabelle Sikich had a single and two runs, Claire Wilson had a double and two RBIs, and Jocelyn Gomez had a single.

The JV game went to Edison, 11-8. Tokay (2-0) was scheduled to host Ripon on Wednesday, and will play at Franklin-Stockton today.

Varsity: Lodi 4, Franklin-Elk Grove 3

The Flames scored in the fifth inning to break a tie and held on for the win on Tuesday, with pitcher Ashlyn Jubrey earning the win on two hits and four strikeouts in five innings of work.

At the plate, Alyssa Noriega went 2-for-3 with a double and a pair of RBIs, Allyson Frank went 2-for-3 with a double, and Jubrey, Kiki Mazza, Holly Reich, Hannah Escalante and Abby Schweigert each singled.

The JV game went to Franklin, 9-1. The Flames (2-0) were scheduled to play at Elk Grove on Wednesday.

Varsity: Manteca 10, Liberty Ranch 5

The Hawks dropped to 1-2 with Tuesday's loss, which saw the Buffalos score six runs across the last two innings.

Carlie Perez went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, Natalie Vigil and Shelby Duarte each went 2-for-3, and Riley Sickels, Gracyn Graviette, Lauren Quinn, Ysabella Granata and Khali Barrantes each singled.

Liberty Ranch will play at Elk Grove today.

Varsity: Sonora 12, Galt 0

The Warriors were no-hit in their opener on Tuesday, a game that ended after five innings for the 10-run rule. Galt will be back in action at Franklin-Stockton on March 5.


Varsity boys: Tokay 3, Franklin-Stockton 2

The Tigers lost the first two sets, then won narrow victories in the final three to come away with a 19-25, 17-25, 26-24, 25-23, 15-12 victory. Franklin won the JV game 25-12, 28-26.

Tokay (2-4) was scheduled to play at Hollister on Wednesday, then will host McNair on Friday.

Varsity boys: Manteca 3, Lodi 0

The Flames were swept 24-5, 25-13, 25-20 on Tuesday to fall to 2-4. Lodi is next in action on March 5 at Kimball.
